Encourage One Another

Sometimes our friends come to share with us a pain, tell about a disease they suffer, a hurdle they are going through, etc. After we have a conversation do they leave hopeless and more burdened or do they leave encouraged and strengthened. Of course we are not the source of enduring relief only Our Great God is the ever abiding peace giver.

Being a child of God, our first thought should be to remind them how Faithful our God is. For example, when someone comes to share with you about a physical ailment, the questions that first run into our minds would be to ask if they consulted a doctor, what did they say, how severe it is. It surely isn’t wrong to ask these details but don’t forget to tell them that the God we serve is Yahweh Rapha, Our Healer. Say a word of prayer with them. It surely will calm down their troubled hearts.

Proverbs 12:25 says “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.”. Often when we are disturbed about something we tend to forget that we serve a Bigger God than the big problems ahead of us. A word of encouragement would encourage us and uplift our heart. It would remind us to cast all our cares upon God for He cares for us. We never know when even a small gesture or word of encouragement might make a very significant difference for others.

There has been number of times when I went with a heavy heart to Church and it would be a child’s memory verse that would cheer me up. God will speak to us in different ways. So we should be ready to speak out what God gives you in your heart to tell someone. Nothing is more powerful than hearing from the word of God. There are promises that God has given to us. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” – Luke 21:23

Let us be an encouragement to each other so that they do not lose heart and focus in the winds of this world. Let us stay rooted to the Word of God so that we be encouraged and be an encouragement to others. Remember that even when others fail to encourage us or are unavailable to encourage us, God and His Word are available and sufficient to encourage us.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” – 2 Corinthians 3:3,4

  1. I have learnt that hope is a powerful thing. And even if God isn’t going to heal in this life, giving people hope that he can and is ever present with them is powerful.
