“Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing.
You guard all that is mine.
The land you have given me is a pleasant land”. Psalm 16:5-6
What a wonderful inheritance!
In the above verse, David says he has a great inheritance and that is Lord alone. Let us ask ourselves what is ours? Are our eyes set on the earthly possessions; that we would need to leave back here one day. Our Loving Heavenly Father has already granted you and me a land that would be ours forever through Jesus Christ. To acquire the land we just need to accept the free gift of God by the faith in Jesus Christ. Through Jesus Christ we are our Heavenly Father’s sons and daughters and we have the great inheritance of our Father.
Galatians 4:4-7 “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”. Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God”.
And this inheritance that we have in Christ in imperishable, it is there with us forever. So, shouldn’t we be setting up our eyes on the inheritance above?
Matthew 6:19-20 Jesus says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Let us store treasures in Jesus Christ, let us submit our lives to His will. In this world, let us utilize all the resources He has provided us to serve Him and glorify Him. No other treasure has a greater value than Him.
And finally, we are guaranteed this wonderful land if we believe and accept Jesus as our Savior.
Ephesians 1:13-14, “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory”.
