Take the Armor of God

We are living in a world of darkness. We are constantly in a battle; a battle against the world and its desires, a battle against the Satanic powers, a battle for spiritual strength. We should live each moment of our lives carefully as we should not be deceived by Satan. Satan is always looking out for opportunities to deceive us and take us away from the truth.

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ” – Colossians 2:8

We are already in war, but are we ready to fight yet? To be in war we should be well equipped soldiers so that we always have victory over our enemy. As obvious we cannot achieve victory on our own, we need the mighty power of God. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” – Ephesians 6:10 -11

To win a battle we need the right weapons and power. Apostle Paul tells us how equipped we should be to fight against our enemy. Ephesians 6:14-18 tells us about the weapons that we need to take for the battle. Paul is asking each one of us to be a soldier with all the weapons, Paul may be picturing a Roman soldier here. Let us see how we can win this battle.

1)Having fastened on the belt of truth

A belt is what all soldier’s weapons are attached to. Our belt is the truth, the truth about God and the Gospel. Let us have this belt wrapped around always.

2)Having put on the breastplate of righteousness

A breastplate protects our body from neck to navel at both sides, basically it protects our heart. Our heart is the primary focus for Satan. He can deceive our feelings and thoughts very easily. The enemy can fill our heart with guilt and discouragement.  We were all sinners; but once we accept Jesus as our Savior we are cleansed and we are righteous. Once we are righteous, God wraps us with His righteousness and the enemy can never cheat us here.

3)As shoes; having put on the readiness given by the Gospel of peace.

A soldier’s shoes should be firm and tight such that it protects him from slipping. As Christians, our shoe is the readiness to preach the Gospel. Be firm in the good news and preach it to those who are deceived.  When we preach the gospel, we are fighting against our enemy

4)Above all, take up the shield of faith

Shield covers the entire soldier; it protects you from blow of arrows and firing missiles. Our shield is Faith and Faith gives us Hope. We might be getting blow of arrows and firing missiles in our current circumstances, but the shield of faith that we have will extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil.

I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.” – Psalms 27:13

5)Take the helmet of Salvation

Head is the most precious and important part of the body. We cannot go into a battle without the helmet. Our helmet is salvation and hence Christ is our Savior. And if we have Christ as our head, what do we fear and what could stand against us?

6)Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12

In order to use this weapon, we need to know and understand the word of God. So, spend time in reading and understanding the scriptures. It has everything that we need to have for the battle. Satan will never withstand this powerful weapon. Jesus himself used this weapon when he was tempted by Satan. Matthew 4:1-11

So, as children of God let us all take this powerful armor of God and fight against our enemy; God will be on our side to help us win the enemy for us.

God Bless!
